War or victory gardens were vegetable, fruit, and herb gardens that were planted on private residences during WWI. The name changed from war to victory gardens after the armistice. As a way to reduce the pressure on farmers to produce food, Americans were encouraged to plant their own gardens to conserve food supply, and so the US could send food to a war-torn Europe. Join the Phillips Museum and the EAA and bring your friends to plant herbs in our Victory Garden that will be repurposed throughout the year at the Fair Trade Cafe. Co-Sponsored by EAA This event is open to the public.
